Berlin - Pergamon Museum

Not sure why I never posted this one.  I guess I was planning to write a lot and I never did.  One of the places I want to go in Turkey, although a lot of the great works of art are in Berlin.  Pergamon was a Greek city state, located on the west coast of Turkey.  Not everything, of course, if from Pergamon.   The blue and gold tiles on the Ishtar Gate from Babylon, the altar from Pergamon -- it's really quite astonishing that these huge buildings were dismantled, moved to Berlin, and reassembled in a museum built for that purpose.  Museum Island was in the East Berlin section of Berlin, and many items from the museum were removed to Moscow for "safekeeping," and they are still there.  Would the Elgin Marbles still be in existence if they hadn't been removed from Athens to London?  Who can know.

Vacation

Can't believe I haven't written anything or posted any pictures in 18 months!  I will have to get started, or restarted, as the case may be.
